AROMASE’s Path to Carbon Neutrality: 48% Emissions Cut and PAS 2060 Achievement

Over the last 1,000 days, AROMASE has worked tirelessly with vendors and our supply chain to reduce our carbon footprint significantly. Thanks to these efforts, we cut our carbon emissions by 48% in 2023 compared to 2022. This achievement highlights our dedication to sustainability and commitment to environmental responsibility.

In 2024, we reached a monumental milestone by achieving “PAS 2060 Organizational Carbon Neutrality,” a certification that verifies our complete offset of 2023’s organizational carbon emissions. This achievement distinguishes AROMASE as the first B Corp haircare company in Taiwan to attain carbon neutrality—a recognition we hold with immense pride.

What’s Carbon Neutrality?

Carbon neutrality means balancing emitted carbon dioxide with an equal amount removed or offset. This means cutting carbon emissions as much as possible and offsetting any leftovers with projects like reforestation, renewable energy, or carbon capture. Carbon neutrality is crucial in combating climate change and reducing the global carbon footprint.

AROMASE’s Carbon Reduction Plan

A strategic and meticulously planned approach guides our journey towards carbon neutrality:

1. ISO 14064 Greenhouse Gas Inventory & ISO 14067 Product Carbon Footprint: These certifications allowed us to pinpoint the key areas where carbon emissions were most significant, providing a clear roadmap for targeted reduction efforts.
2. From Sustainable Products to Organizational Operations: We took decisive actions, extending our sustainability initiatives beyond products to encompass all aspects of our organizational operations.
3. Setting Target Timelines: By establishing clear timelines, we ensured that our carbon reduction actions were not only effective but also timely and measurable.

AROMASE’s Carbon Reduction Achievements

We are proud to share some of the tangible outcomes of our carbon reduction efforts:

• Renewable Energy Integration: We introduced 50% renewable energy in our headquarters, reducing approximately 61.6 tCO2e.
• Energy-Efficient Equipment: By replacing old equipment with high-efficiency alternatives, we achieved a 7% savings in electricity consumption.
• Zero Waste Friday Initiative: This office-wide initiative reduced waste by 25%, translating to a reduction of approximately 0.05 tCO2e.
• Hybrid Vehicles: Switching to hybrid eco-friendly vehicles for official use resulted in a 40% reduction in carbon emissions, approximately 0.9 tCO2e.
• Sustainable Packaging: We embraced the use of PCR (post-consumer recycled) materials in our packaging, reducing our carbon footprint by 70% and cutting down over 28,800 kg of plastic.
• FSC-Certified Paper: Over 80% of our outer packaging now uses recycled and FSC-certified paper, further enhancing our sustainability credentials.

Achieving PAS 2060 Carbon Neutrality in 2024 marks a major milestone for AROMASE, but it’s just the beginning. We’ll keep pushing to reduce our environmental impact, aiming for net zero by 2023.
